Diversity & Inclusion In Art, Design and Computing
Diverse perspectives enable us to make meaning and discover new things about ourselves and our world.
This program focuses on increasing diversity of students pursuing interdisciplinary degree programs in arts, design and computing and increasing both the quantity and quality of equitable, interdisciplinary art, design and computing curricula.
Empowering people and removing barriers creates opportunities.
In 2022 and 2023, the Foundation awarded five $500,000 multi-year awards to US-based universities and colleges. These one-time grants connect Co-Founder Pat Hanrahan’s 2019 Turing Award for “fundamental contributions to 3-D computer graphics, and the revolutionary impact of these techniques on computer-generated imagery (CGI) in filmmaking and other applications” to Foundation investments that celebrate the cultural significance of art and design and support the inclusion of more diverse perspectives in this work.
Grants for Diversity and Inclusion in Art, Design and Computing
The grant recipients are California Institute of the Arts (CalArts), Georgia Tech, Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA), Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) and University of Hawai`i.
